Chinagraph pencils are useful for marking on hard, glossy non-porous surfaces such as porcelain, glass, polished stone, plastic, ceramics and other glazed, lacquered or polished surfaces. They can also be used on the glossy paper that is used for photographic printing (particularly for contact sheets). The chinagraph can also be used as a construction or handyman's marking tool as it rarely scratches the surface it is used on.
The Chinagraph grease pencil can be used for many purposes including writing on or creating plant labels. The pencils versatility also lends itself for use in plumbing to mark metal pipes.
The chinagraph pencil can also be utilised as a teaching aid in geography or used in orienteering and rambling for route planning and map marking using laminated maps. The pencils are particularly useful if the weather takes a turn for the worse. They can be used for making notes of grid references, tracks, bordersand notable landmarks.
